BOAT REGISTRATION
For boats moored in Utah-
Boat Registration required by the Utah Department of Motor Vehicles
Boaters must have a Utah Certificate of Registration (registration card) and annual registration decals to legally operate a vessel on Utah’s waters. The Certificate of Registration must be onboard and available for inspection by an enforcement officer whenever the vessel is operated. The only exceptions are:
- Non-motorized vessels (canoes, kayaks, etc.)
- Vessels properly registered in another state and using Utah waters for 60 or fewer consecutive days. Non-resident registration reciprocity is 14 days. Utah residents must register and number their boat in Utah if they use their boat on Utah waters.
- Ship’s lifeboats.

For boats moored in Arizona-

All undocumented motorized watercraft operated, moored or anchored on the waterways of Arizona
must be numbered. The owner must file an application for number with the Arizona Game and Fish Department on forms provided. Nonmotorized watercraft are exempt from
registration requirements.
Numbering exceptions
Exceptions to registration requirements include watercraft used solely as lifeboats and those documented by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Reciprocity
Nonresident-owned watercraft currently registered in another state may be operated on the waters of
Arizona for a period of up to 90 days.
